Priory Church, Deeping St James, PE6 8NP

Sarah Latto director BRICK BY BRICK echo explore music from the 15th century to the present day inspired by and relating to architecture and technological progress, including works by Dufay, Crecquillon, Weelkes and Palestrina alongside improvisation and folk song. The eight professional singers came together in early 2017 through Genesis Sixteen, the prestigious young artists’ scheme run by Harry Christophers and The Sixteen. Following highly acclaimed launch concerts in London and Birmingham, they have appeared in festivals and collaborated with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The magnificent church of St James was originally part of a 12th century Benedictine priory, dissolved in 1539, with a tower and spire rebuilt in the 18th century following the collapse of the original. The impressive nave with its massive pillars is lit by large Decorated windows. Relics from the original foundation include a large font and, in the chancel, two round-headed windows and the remains of stalls for the monks.
