Grantham Dramatic Society is delighted to present a brand-new play, written and directed by member, Rosemary Gibson.
‘Living Over The Shop’ offers a gossip’s eye view of Margaret Thatcher’s upbringing, influences and her ‘path to power’.
The story takes place in Maggie’s father’s Post Office and Grocer’s shop on North Parade, and is told by visitors and customers who aren’t shy about sharing their opinions.
No praise, nor condemnation, is heaped on Grantham’s most ‘Marmite’ of daughters. We don’t meet the young Thatcher (née Roberts), but we do meet her hugely influential, strict Sabbatarian Methodist father, Alf and learn more about what made her her. In this pre-political part of her life, we hear local voices describe her journey from birth to leaving for university.
