Catchy ballads, barn-storming dance tunes and settings of texts ranging from the middle ages to the present are played on an extraordinary mix of instruments, including medieval shawm, renaissance cittern, Flemish bagpipes, fiddle, bass with added rich vocal harmony. The spacious church is announced by an imposing tower topped with a slender, crocketed spire. Its apparent simplicity is in marked contrast to the village’s Picturesque cottages and the might Manor. Inside, the nave arcades show the transition from late Norman to Early English style. Memorials to the owners of the original manor house, carvings on the font and medieval chantry chapels all make exploration worthwhile.
